With the announced closure of Cascades, more than 120 jobs will be lost in Western New York. The decision has been linked to rising energy costs, which have been described as detrimental to the company’s business model. Representatives from Cascades had previously expressed concerns about these costs during a manufacturer’s roundtable meeting.
State Senator Robert G. Ortt commented on the situation, stating: “With the announced closing of Cascades, we are once again seeing the destructive results of Democrats’ continued embracing of socialist policies like the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act and the Green New Scam, despite glaring evidence it is obliterating our economy and devastating to our working families.”
Senator Ortt further noted that unless Albany adopts more balanced and business-friendly reforms, similar closures could continue. He remarked: “Unless Albany begins to take these warnings seriously and adopts more balanced, business-friendly reforms, we will see this unfortunate trend continue.”
The closure of Cascades follows closely after the shutdown of the Sumitomo Plant. Senator Ortt attributed these closures to policies supported by Governor Kathy Hochul and her Democratic allies in the State Legislature: “The closing of Cascades, on the heels of the closure of the Sumitomo Plant, are the direct result of the Governor and her Democratic allies in the State Legislature embracing disastrous policies.”
