Rep. Claudia Tenney, currently serving as the U.S. Congress representative for New York’s 24th district since 2021, has recently made several statements on social media platforms regarding law enforcement and public safety. Tenney has served in Congress since succeeding Anthony Brindisi and has also previously held a position in the New York State Assembly from 2011 to 2016.
On April 30, 2025, Tenney addressed her visit to CECOT where she observed individuals convicted of severe crimes being detained. She specified that these included “murderers, human traffickers, & drug dealers” and asserted that “these criminals are exactly where they belong” in her tweet.
Later the same day, Tenney took to social media to express gratitude towards Yates County Lieutenant Ed Nemitz for his 31 years of service. She wrote, “Thank you to Yates County Lieutenant Ed Nemitz for your 31 years in Law Enforcement!” and congratulated him on his retirement on April 30, 2025.
The following day, Rep. Tenney voiced her support for law enforcement personnel, emphasizing the importance of celebrating rather than critiquing officers who respond to emergencies. She extended her gratitude to Tom Homan for his support of Rochester PD officers and criticized city officials she described as favoring criminals, stating, “Thank you to Tom Homan for standing with our Rochester PD officers” on May 1, 2025.
Claudia Tenney, born in 1961 in New Hartford, New York, brings a background in law, holding a BA from Colgate University and a JD from the University of Cincinnati, and currently resides in Canandaigua.
