Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) expressed support for President Trump’s signing of the bipartisan Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act. The legislation, which Tenney cosponsored, allows schools participating in the National School Lunch Program to serve both flavored and unflavored whole milk. This change updates federal school nutrition standards.
According to supporters, whole milk provides important nutrients such as calcium, potassium, vitamin D, and protein that are essential for childhood development. The act is also intended to help American dairy farmers by increasing demand for domestically produced milk, with benefits expected for family farms in rural communities like those in Upstate New York.
Tenney stated: “Healthy kids need real nutrition, and whole milk delivers the essential nutrients children need to grow, learn, and thrive. This commonsense law gives schools greater flexibility to serve wholesome, nutrient-rich options while supporting the hardworking dairy farmers who are the backbone of Upstate New York’s economy. At a time when family farms are facing rising costs and global competition, expanding access to American dairy products strengthens both student health and our rural communities. I was pleased to support this bipartisan effort and thank President Trump for signing it into law to benefit children, farmers, and families across our state and the nation.”
Claudia Tenney has represented New York’s 24th district in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Anthony Brindisi. She previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2011 to 2016. Tenney was born in New Hartford in 1961 and currently resides in Canandaigua. She graduated from Colgate University with a BA in 1983 and earned a JD from the University of Cincinnati in 1987.
