Congresswoman Claudia Tenney announced that the House of Representatives has passed the CJS–Interior–Energy and Water appropriations funding package, which includes several water infrastructure projects for New York’s 24th Congressional District.
The approved funding aims to support clean water access, drinking water infrastructure, and environmental resilience in Upstate New York. The passage of this legislation is seen as a step toward updating aging systems and supporting public health and economic stability in the region.
Among the funded projects are $10 million for Genesee County to improve its water and wastewater infrastructure, $1 million each for the Town of Phelps’ sanitary sewer project and Village of Geneseo’s system improvements, and $750,000 each for upgrades in the Village of Waterloo, Town of Throop, and Village of Mexico.
Congresswoman Tenney stated: “Reliable water and sewer infrastructure is essential for public health, economic growth, and quality of life across Upstate New York. I am pleased the House passed this funding package to advance priority projects for communities across NY-24. These investments will modernize critical water systems, protect local resources, and support families and businesses throughout the region. I worked closely with local leaders to advance projects that address meaningful needs and reflect responsible use of taxpayer dollars, and the passage of this critical legislation will deliver real results for our district.”
Tenney has represented New York’s 24th district in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Anthony Brindisi. She previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2011 to 2016. Tenney was born in New Hartford in 1961, lives in Canandaigua, graduated from Colgate University with a BA in 1983, and earned her JD from the University of Cincinnati in 1987.
