Families and small businesses in New York State are facing high utility bills, according to Rob Ortt, a member of the New York State Senate and former Minority Leader. In a series of tweets posted on April 1 and April 2, 2026, Ortt addressed issues ranging from utility costs to state spending proposals.

On April 1, Ortt wrote: “Families and small businesses across NYS are getting crushed by utility bills that are 50% above the national average. We are fighting for relief: a one-year utility tax holiday and a two-year green gas tax holiday. Time to put $$$ back in YOUR pocket.”

The following day, Ortt commented on a local event with: “The population of #BillsMafia increased by one beautiful blessing. Congratulations to the happy couple!” This tweet referenced an addition to the fanbase of the Buffalo Bills football team.

Later on April 2, Ortt criticized a proposal involving census funding: “New York City politicians want NYS to spend $40 million to count illegal immigrants in the 2030 census. It’s a brazen political power grab. And they want you to pay for it. They’re trying to stack the deck to boost their ranks in the House. That’s it.”

Rob Ortt is known for his focus on veteran reintegration and support for post-traumatic stress, as noted by his official biography on the New York State Senate website (https://www.nysenate.gov/senators/robert-g-ortt/about). He has received recognition such as the Bronze Star for his service in Afghanistan and has specialized in assisting middle-income families with debt reduction and retirement planning. Additionally, he became the first official to hold the combined title of Clerk-Treasurer in North Tonawanda.
