New York State Senator Robert Ortt addressed a range of issues affecting his constituents in a series of tweets on February 10, 2026, including concerns over rising utility costs, the need for an investigation into business practices at Candlelight Cabinetry, and temporary closures of DMV branches statewide.

On the morning of February 10, Ortt posted about increasing energy expenses reported by his constituents: “Every day, I hear from concerned constituents on how expensive their gas and power bills have gotten. My conference is ready to provide real relief to New Yorkers, but Albany Democrats have shown no interest in stepping back from their out-of-touch policies that are the root”. This statement reflects ongoing debate over state energy policies and their impact on household costs.

Later that day, Ortt raised concerns regarding employment practices at Candlelight Cabinetry. He wrote: “From what our offices are hearing from affected employees, an investigation is necessary into the business practices of Candlelight Cabinetry. Which is why Assemblyman Paul Bologna and I are calling on the Attorney General and department of labor to look into what led up to mass”. The tweet called for official scrutiny following reports from employees about workplace conditions leading up to recent layoffs.

In a third post that evening, Ortt informed residents about upcoming DMV branch closures: “Starting this Friday, DMV branches across the state will be closed for several days as they undergo system upgrades. https://t.co/qFCL2TzFF9”. The notice advised New Yorkers to plan accordingly due to these scheduled interruptions in service.

Senator Robert Ortt represents New York’s 62nd District and serves on committees related to rules and state-Native American relations. He has held positions as mayor and was recognized for his military service with honors such as the Bronze Star during his deployment in Afghanistan. As Minority Leader in the New York State Senate, he has also focused on veteran reintegration programs and support for post-traumatic stress (official website). Additionally, Ortt has experience assisting middle-income families with debt reduction and retirement planning.
