Washington, DC—Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today introduced the Defund NPR Act of 2024 to prohibit federal funding to the National Public Radio (NPR) due to the platform's overwhelming partisan bias.

Tenney's move comes in the wake of NPR editor Uri Berliner's suspension after he disclosed the evident levels of partisanship within the company's newsroom. Berliner highlighted that NPR reporters and editors were openly making editorial decisions to criticize President Trump and support the Biden campaigns. The revelation included instances where NPR reporters chose to overlook the Hunter Biden laptop scandal, dismissing it as a potential aid to Trump's re-election efforts. Furthermore, NPR's new CEO, Katherine Maher, has been cited for making public partisan statements such as labeling Donald Trump as a racist and endorsing rioters during BLM protests.

"American taxpayers should not be forced to fund NPR, which has become a partisan propaganda machine," emphasized Congresswoman Tenney. She further added, "My legislation, the Defund NPR Act of 2024, ensures no federal funding is used to perpetuate the media bias that has taken over NPR. As a former newspaper owner and publisher, I understand the importance of non-partisan, balanced media coverage, and have seen first-hand the left-wing bias in our news media."

Tenney concluded by stating, "These disturbing reports out of NPR confirm what many have known for a long time: NPR is using American taxpayer dollars to manipulate the news and lie to the American people on behalf of a political agenda. It’s past time the American people stop footing the bill for NPR, and the partisan, left-wing activists that control it."

The Defund NPR Act of 2024 introduced by Congresswoman Tenney aims to address the concerns regarding NPR's alleged partisan bias and its use of taxpayer funds to support a specific political narrative.
