Assemblyman Angelo Morinello has announced the launch of his annual Summer Reading Challenge, titled “Color Our World.” This initiative targets students in grades K-7 within the 145th Assembly District and is presented in collaboration with the New York State Assembly. The challenge aims to encourage young readers to engage with literature throughout the summer months.
Assemblyman Morinello expressed his enthusiasm for this year’s theme, stating, “I am thrilled to open my summer reading challenge, with this year’s theme being ‘Color Our World’.” He emphasized that reading allows individuals to explore new worlds and learn about different cultures without leaving home.
The challenge encourages participants to read stories that transport them to various countries and planets. To earn a New York State Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificate, students must read at least 15 minutes daily for a minimum of 40 days during July and August 2025. Additionally, those who complete the program alongside nine classmates will be rewarded with a pizza celebration hosted by Assemblyman Morinello.
Registration for the Summer Reading Challenge is currently open. Upon registering, parents will receive an official tracker via email to monitor their child’s progress. The challenge runs from July 1 through August 31, 2025. Parents will receive a submission link during the summer for certificate distribution during the 2025-2026 school year.
Morinello highlighted the importance of local libraries in promoting reading habits: “Our local libraries are the heart of our community, packed with stories to spark your imagination,” he stated. He encouraged everyone to visit their library and explore available resources.
“Let’s get reading and make this summer burst with color!” concluded Assemblyman Morinello.
