Congresswoman Claudia Tenney has introduced the Second Amendment Guarantee Act (SAGA) in Washington, D.C., aiming to prevent states from banning rifles or shotguns that are permitted under federal law. The legislation is co-sponsored by Representatives Doug LaMalfa and Nick Langworthy.

The proposed SAGA Act seeks to nullify New York’s SAFE Act, which restricts the purchase, transfer, and ownership of certain firearms in the state. According to Congresswoman Tenney, “The Constitution clearly established our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.” She added that the act would prevent states from enacting laws violating this amendment.

Congressman Langworthy also expressed his support for the legislation, stating, “No matter how hard radical Democrats in Albany attempt to limit lawful gun ownership, the New York Congressional delegation will stand firm to protect law-abiding New Yorkers.”

The bill is positioned as a defense of constitutional rights against what its proponents view as anti-gun policies by some states.
