Congresswoman Claudia Tenney has introduced a resolution to recognize June 2025 as National Dairy Month. This initiative aims to honor the contributions of dairy farmers and producers in New York, a key player in the dairy industry.
The resolution is supported by several representatives including Russ Fulcher, Tony Wied, Don Bacon, Rob Bresnahan Jr., Elise Stefanik, Derrick Van Orden, John Moolenaar, and Mike Simpson.
New York boasts nearly 3,200 dairy farms that collectively produce 15.7 billion pounds of milk annually. This ranks the state as the fifth-largest in dairy production nationwide. Wyoming County in NY-24 is notable for its high milk output of approximately 1.1 billion pounds each year, contributing significantly to making NY-24 the fourth-largest dairy-producing district in the United States.
Despite these achievements, New York’s dairy farmers face challenges such as unfair trade practices and increasing costs. Recent legislative proposals from Albany Democrats seek to limit farm sizes to 700 cows per farm, which Congresswoman Tenney argues would severely impact the state’s dairy sector.
“New York is home to over 3,000 dairy farms, many of which are right here in NY-24. These farmers are the backbone of our agricultural economy,” stated Congresswoman Tenney. She expressed her pride in supporting this resolution and acknowledged the importance of recognizing June as National Dairy Month.
