Congresswoman Claudia Tenney has issued a reminder to seniors and eligible residents in New York’s 24th District that the Medicare Open Enrollment Period begins on October 15 and runs through December 7, 2025. During this time, individuals can review their coverage and make changes for the coming year.
Medicare offers two primary options: Original Medicare, which includes Part A and Part B, and Medicare Advantage (Part C). Those with Original Medicare may add Part D for prescription drug coverage. Enrollees in a Medicare Advantage Plan have an additional opportunity from January 1 through March 31 to switch to another Advantage Plan, with changes taking effect the first day of the following month. This separate window does not allow switching from Original Medicare into a new Advantage Plan.
“It’s important to understand how Medicare works alongside any other coverage you may have, such as retiree, employer, or Medicaid insurance,” said Congresswoman Tenney. “Even if you’re already enrolled, it’s wise to review your options each year, since both your health needs and available plans can change. Comparing options could save you money or give you access to new benefits. Between October 15 and December 7, you can join, switch, or drop a Medicare Advantage or drug plan, or return to Original Medicare. Any changes will take effect on January 1, 2026. If you keep your current plan, be sure to review any updates to costs or benefits for 2026.”
