Congresswoman Claudia Tenney has expressed support for the House of Representatives’ recent approval of a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The legislation aims to restore full operational capacity across DHS agencies, including Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Coast Guard, TSA, FEMA, and the Secret Service.
The passage comes after weeks in which some DHS components operated at reduced capacity due to funding issues. These disruptions raised concerns about national preparedness amid increasing global threats. The new bill is intended to provide resources needed for these agencies to maintain security operations.
Tenney stated: “With threats around the world escalating and national security on the line, the United States cannot afford to allow the continued shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security. DHS protects our borders, secures our airports, defends our critical infrastructure, and responds to emergencies across the country. The House has done its job and passed legislation to fund these essential missions. Now Senate Democrats must stop playing political games, pass this bill immediately, and fully reopen the government. Weakening homeland security at a time of rising threats is simply unacceptable, and the American people deserve better.”
Claudia Tenney currently represents New York’s 24th district in Congress after replacing Anthony Brindisi in 2021. She previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2011 to 2016. Tenney was born in New Hartford in 1961 and now lives in Canandaigua. She graduated from Colgate University with a BA in 1983 and earned her JD from the University of Cincinnati in 1987.
