Niagara County Department of Health - Pneumonia Can Affect Anyone, No Matter Their Age

Pneumonia claimed the lives of 2.5 million, including 672,000 children, in 2019 alone. In 2021, the estimated burden of deaths from respiratory infections, including COVID-19, is a massive 6 million. The single best way to prevent pneumococcal disease is to be vaccinated.

•Children should receive pneumonia vaccine at 2, 4, and 6 months & a booster at 12 to 15 months.

•Adults 65 years and older should be vaccinated against pneumonia.

•Adults who are 19 to 64 years of age with certain health risks should receive pneumonia vaccine.

Talk to your doctor about which pneumococcal vaccines are right for you.
