Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) recently cast her vote in favor of seven pieces of legislation aimed at bolstering support for law enforcement officers and ensuring they are equipped with the necessary resources and tools to maintain safety in our communities.
The legislations, which received Tenney's endorsement, were all successfully passed by the House of Representatives. These include H.R. 354, the Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act (LEOSA) Reform Act, which expands the rights of qualified active and retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms in public areas such as school zones, national parks, federal facilities, and state or private property.
H.R. 8146, also known as the Police Our Border Act, mandates that the Attorney General provide detailed reports on how Biden’s border crisis affects law enforcement officers. This includes information on exposures to fentanyl, injuries sustained, financial burdens encountered, and operational strains experienced.
H.R. 7343 or the Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act requires that illegal aliens who assault law enforcement officers be promptly arrested and detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) until they are removed from the United States.
The Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act of 2024 or H.R. 7581 necessitates that the Attorney General compile reports on violence against law enforcement officers and evaluate programs designed to provide wellness resources and protective equipment to police officers.
S. 546 or the Recruit and Retain Act expands the U.S. Department of Justice’s Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant program to include recruitment and retention efforts while establishing a program supporting partnerships between local schools and law enforcement agencies for improved recruitment.
Resolutions H. Res. 1213 addresses violence against law enforcement officers by condemning calls for defunding police departments and anti-police sentiment that has escalated violence against police forces. It also acknowledges the mental and physical impacts of such violence on police officers and expresses condolences and appreciation to the families of fallen law enforcement officers.
H. Res. 1210 condemns President Biden’s border crisis and the dangers and burdens it has created for America’s law enforcement officers, urging the Biden Administration to support these officers defending our homeland.
Congresswoman Tenney expressed her unwavering support for law enforcement officers, stating, “Our courageous law enforcement officers risk their lives every day for our communities, and they deserve to have the tools, legal protections, and support they need to do their jobs safely and efficiently.” She further criticized President Biden and Congressional Democrats for abandoning these brave men and women in favor of supporting illegal immigrants and criminals. Tenney affirmed her commitment to backing the nation's law enforcement officers during National Police Week as House Republicans passed multiple bills aimed at combating escalating crime rates and protecting police officers.
