Congresswoman Claudia Tenney of New York's 24th District has announced her support for a legislative effort to end the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)'s Shelter and Services Program. This program currently funds the resettlement of illegal immigrants in the United States.
The legislation, spearheaded by Congresswoman Nancy Mace from South Carolina's 1st District, is being introduced in response to recent natural disasters. The proposal follows Hurricane Helene, which caused significant damage and loss of life, and comes as Hurricane Milton approaches.
The bill aims to redirect American taxpayer dollars towards disaster recovery efforts for U.S. citizens rather than programs that assist with the resettlement of illegal immigrants. Congresswoman Tenney emphasized this priority: “FEMA should focus on its core mission of natural disaster relief, not the resettlement of illegal immigrants.”
She further stated, “Americans are still reeling from the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene, which claimed hundreds of lives and devastated entire communities. It is unfathomable that in the wake of another severe storm, we would prioritize transporting these criminals across the country over assisting Americans in rebuilding their communities. We must terminate FEMA’s Shelter and Services Program to ensure American citizens are prioritized over illegal immigrants.”
