Congresswoman Claudia Tenney of New York's 24th District has introduced the Protecting School Milk Choices Act. This legislation aims to ensure that schools participating in the National School Lunch Program offer students at least one flavored milk option. The bill is supported by Representatives Glenn Thompson, Scott Fitzgerald, Mike Lawler, and Derrick Van Orden.

In a statement, Congresswoman Tenney highlighted the trend of local governments replacing dairy products with artificial alternatives. She stated, "The Protecting School Milk Choices Act ensures schools continue to offer students at least one flavored milk option, such as chocolate milk. Flavored milk is a delicious and nutritious choice that kids enjoy, helping them get the essential nutrients they need." She emphasized her commitment to supporting dairy farmers and ensuring children have access to nutritious dairy options.

Michael Dykes, President and CEO of the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA), pointed out that a significant percentage of school-age children do not consume recommended levels of dairy. He noted that the new bill will guarantee nutritious milk options preferred by children are available in schools. "With 13 essential nutrients for growth, development, and immune health, flavored milk helps reduce waste and boost consumption," he said. Dykes also praised Rep. Tenney and other co-sponsors for their support.
