Congresswoman Claudia Tenney from New York, together with Senator Mike Lee of Utah, has introduced the Defund Government Sponsored Propaganda Act. This legislation aims to stop federal funding for the National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), citing concerns over partisan bias.

Tenney stated, "As a former newspaper owner and publisher, I understand the vital role of balanced, non-partisan media. Unfortunately, these taxpayer-funded outlets have chosen advocacy over accuracy, using public dollars to promote a political agenda rather than report the facts." She expressed concerns that under figures like Katherine Maher, PBS and NPR no longer adhere to American principles of free thought and open discourse. Tenney added that taxpayer money should not support what she views as political propaganda disguised as journalism.

Senator Lee echoed similar sentiments: “Americans have hundreds of sources of news and commentary, and they don’t need politically biased, taxpayer-funded media choosing what they should see and hear. PBS and NPR are free to compete in the marketplace of ideas using donations, but their public subsidy should end."

The proposed act seeks to address these issues by cutting off federal funding to these organizations.
