Congresswoman Claudia Tenney recently hosted a welcome home event in Dansville, New York, to celebrate the safe return of Ryan Corbett. Corbett, a native of Western New York, was detained by the Taliban in Afghanistan on August 10, 2022, and held without charge for nearly 900 days before his release on January 21, 2025.

Tenney played a significant role in advocating for Corbett's release. After learning about his situation in 2023, she worked to secure his designation as a wrongful detainee by the U.S. Department of State on October 10, 2023. She also introduced H.Res. 965, which called for Corbett's immediate release and passed the House in June 2024. Furthermore, Tenney facilitated a meeting between the Corbett family and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz in January 2025.

In her remarks at the event, Congresswoman Tenney stated: "After nearly 900 extremely challenging days for the Corbett Family, NY-24 and the nation are thrilled to welcome Ryan Corbett home. The strength and courage displayed by Anna, Ketsia, Miriam, and Caleb has been truly astonishing."

Anna Corbett expressed her gratitude towards Congresswoman Tenney's efforts: "Our family is deeply grateful for Congresswoman Tenney's help in bringing Ryan home after 893 days of Wrongful Detention by the Taliban in Afghanistan."

The ceremony marked an emotional reunion for Ryan Corbett with his family and community members who supported him throughout his ordeal.
