Senate and Assembly Republicans gathered at the State Capitol in Albany, NY, to advocate for the passage of "Laken's Law" and the repeal of New York’s "Green Light" law. The meeting was attended by U.S. Border Czar Tom Homan, who joined state leaders to emphasize the importance of enhancing border security and reversing sanctuary policies.

"Laken’s Law," sponsored by Senate Republican Deputy Leader Andrew Lanza and Assemblyman Jarett Gandolfo, aims to restore cooperation between New York courts, law enforcement, and federal immigration authorities when an illegal immigrant is arrested or detained. Another proposal seeks to repeal the "Green Light Law," which allows illegal immigrants to obtain a driver's license while restricting information sharing with federal authorities. Senator Dan Stec sponsors this legislation alongside Assemblyman Scott Gray.

"The migrant crisis has raged out of control in New York as a direct result of open border and sanctuary policies enacted by Democrats at the state and federal levels," said Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt. He expressed gratitude for Homan's efforts and called for an end to policies that hinder law enforcement cooperation with federal counterparts.

Assembly Republican Leader Will Barclay stated, "This is a matter of public safety that should transcend partisan politics." He emphasized securing borders as common sense for community safety.

Deputy Senate Republican Leader Andrew Lanza criticized New York's sanctuary policies as disastrous. He praised President Trump's administration for its border security efforts: “There is a certain poetry that a native New Yorker, President Trump, is fixing what leftist Democrat New Yorkers broke.”

Assemblyman Jarret Gandolfo highlighted the preventable murder of Laken Riley due to weak border policies: “The Trump Administration has made great strides on border security... Now, it’s New York’s turn."

Senator Dan Stec pointed out failures along the Northern Border due to Democratic policies: “I sponsor legislation that would repeal the Green Light Law,” expressing pride in collaborating with Tom Homan.

Assemblyman Scott Gray criticized Governor Hochul’s crime policies: “Law and order are indispensable for a functioning society,” stressing accountability without drawbacks.
