Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt has expressed strong criticism towards Albany Democrats for their latest actions in the redistricting process. Ortt condemned the Democrats' move to deviate from the fair maps approved by a bipartisan vote of the Independent Redistricting Commission, accusing them of engaging in partisan gerrymandering.
Ortt highlighted the Democrats' history of manipulating the redistricting process to serve their own interests, stating, "Since the creation of the IRC, Democrats have continually circumvented the will of New Yorkers and attempted to rig the system to benefit themselves." He also pointed out their previous attempts to influence outcomes by stacking the Court of Appeals.
In a scathing remark, Ortt emphasized the Democrats' disregard for the voices of New Yorkers advocating for transparency and fairness in redistricting, asserting, "It is once again painfully obvious that Albany Democrats don’t care about the millions of New Yorkers who demanded a fair and transparent redistricting process - they only care about their own political self-interests."
The ongoing partisan battle over redistricting in New York reflects the deep-seated divisions and power struggles within the state's political landscape.
