Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, representing New York's 24th district, has introduced the Let Pregnancy Centers Serve Act alongside Congressman Chris Smith of New Jersey and Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach from Minnesota. The legislation aims to safeguard pregnancy care centers from discrimination by federal, state, and local governments due to their life-affirming missions. It also grants these centers a private right of action if they face such discrimination.
Rep. Tenney is recognized for her pro-life advocacy, having received an A+ rating from Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America’s Scorecard for her legislative efforts. This year alone, she has proposed the Pregnancy Resource Center Defense Act and the Unborn Child Support Act to protect these centers from activist attacks and support mothers-to-be.
Congresswoman Tenney stated that previous administrations attempted to limit funds for pro-life pregnancy centers, affecting their ability to aid pregnant women and unborn children. "The Let Pregnancy Centers Serve Act ensures pregnancy resource centers and pro-life centers are not discriminated against," she said.
Congressman Smith emphasized the vital role of over 2,700 pregnancy care centers in the U.S., which provide crucial support to mothers and children despite facing challenges from some state governments.
Reverend Jim Harden, CEO of CompassCare, criticized liberal states for prioritizing the abortion industry over supporting women and children. He highlighted that pregnancy centers offer significant free medical care annually without federal funding.
